SHOW-STOPPING EXPERIENCE
Students from Houston Elementary joined choir
members from Braswell, Denton, Guyer and Ryan
High schools for a performance at the Kay Bailey
Hutchison Convention Center.
State convention provides
perfect stage for district
students to steal the scene
A dedicated space with more than 2,000,000 square
feet isn’t the ideal setting for an experiment or
fireworks display.
The hundreds of Denton ISD students enrolled in fine
arts classes, however, didn’t let the setting of the
cavernous Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center
in Dallas deter them from setting off fireworks of their
own in a unique artistic experience as part of the
annual Texas Association of School Administrators/
Texas Association of School Boards Convention.
Students showcased their skills in every artistic form
imaginable, with middle school students testing
their chops on the latest jazz tunes and high school
students performing acrobatics normally seen in
Cirque de Solei shows.
“Seeing our students on a stage that grand and
capturing the hearts and minds of everyone in
attendance with their performances was one of the
best experiences of my career in education,” said
Charles Stafford, a Denton ISD school board member.
“My own kids went to school here, so I’ve known we
have exceptional fine arts programs for a long time.
But to see it on full display, where every other school
district in the state sees it, now that’s impressive.”
