LONGHORN LEGACY ATHLETIC
HALL OF FAME
The sixth class of Longhorn Legacy Athletic Hall of Fame inductees was honored Oct. 14 at the
CHISD Performing Arts Center. Meet the 2017 honorees:
Sandra Ayala, Class of 2004
Ayala was an all-star in volleyball, powerlifting and soccer. Her accomplishments include winning
the 2004 state powerlifting championship in her weight class, as well as being named the CHHS
2004 Player of the Year, MVP and Female Athlete of the Year.
Ahmad Hayes, Class of 1993
Hayes is an accomplished athlete in football and powerlifting. He won the 1992 state powerlifting
championship in his weight class and advanced to the World Champion Powerlifting meet. He
attended Southern Methodist University on a full football scholarship.
Eric Patten, Class of 2000
Patten played baseball for the Longhorns and after graduation played for Delta State University on
an athletic scholarship. His college baseball team won the 2004 NCAA National Championship.
1997 Lady Longhorns basketball team
The team had a 33-3 season and was the 4A state runner-up. Several team members were named
players of the year on all-district and all-state teams.
Jim Murphy, 1991-2002 Lady Longhorns head basketball coach
Murphy had a 283-93 record with the Lady Longhorns and took the team to the state
championship game in 1996 and 1997.
