NEW PROGRAMS
Leadership will be a primary
focus at High Pointe, Lake Ridge
and Plummer.
T
he new High Pointe Elementary STEAM Leadership
Academy will help pint-sized leaders create a vision
and work with others to achieve their goals. The
academy will open with the 2018-19 school year.
About 150 students in kindergarten through fifth grade will
receive STEAM lessons from Project Lead The Way, a nonprofit
that provides transformative learning experiences and
leadership curriculum from FranklinCovey, which considers itself
the go-to leadership company for businesses around the world.
In August 2018, Lake Ridge and Plummer students will form
communities inside the classroom. The MicroSociety model
has been placed in classrooms nationwide, but Cedar Hill is the
only North Texas district to implement it. Students create and
run their own government and businesses. Participating districts
have noted increased student achievement and engagement,
and community involvement.
