This month ’ s cover explores the “ 5 Cs ” approach employed by IC Bus clients looking to go all-electric . The 5 Cs approach consists of : Consulting , Charging , Constructing , Connectivity , and Conserving . According to representatives from IC Bus and Navistar , the 5 Cs incorporate the entire process needed to successfully transition and operate a fully electrified school bus fleet . The IC Bus team works with fleet managers and school districts through every step of the process to develop robust zero-emissions strategies that best fit customer needs .
Peter Mannella , chair of the NAPT Public Policy Committee , joins us with a gripping article about learning lessons from moments of trauma . Mannella details the day there was a ( non-fatal ) shooting at his daughter ’ s school , and the feelings of helplessness and panic that all school professionals feel during these tragic situations . Importantly , he outlines steps we can take and lessons we can internalize during these dark times .
Finally , we spoke with David Cooper , industry engagement manager for the U . S . Department of Homeland Security ( DHS ) and the Transportation Security Administration ( TSA ), about the role of DHS / TSA in pupil transportation , the many programs which are specialized for pupil transportation , and how school bus professionals can be proactive in security matters . Cooper provides invaluable insight into the steps our readers can take to prepare for the worst possible scenarios .
