A NEW Idea to Prevent Danger Zone Accidents
WHO SHOULD TEACH
THE STUDENTS
SCHOOL BUS SAFETY ?
A great question and we fear that in many cases , no one does ! Often , the only direction they receive is from the driver at the start of the year .
Accidents happen when one or more people do not follow safe practices . If we can teach the students to follow all the safe practices around a school bus , we will prevent danger zone tragedies . Watch the video above to learn the best way to do this .
The students should be taught to follow these practices :
1 . Never go close to the front of the bus . 2 . Never run after a bus . Always be on time . 3 . How to cross safely in the morning , waiting for driver ’ s directions . 4 . How to cross safely in the afternoon , stopping at the edge of the bumper . 5 . Never pick up anything you drop , near to or under the bus . Tell the driver . 6 . Stay out of the Danger Zones , always at least 10 ' from the bus . 7 . Never play , push or fight near a school bus . 8 . Remove draw cords from clothing or backpacks .

Most student tragedies are caused when students cross the street . If we teach and enforce the correct crossing procedure , most of these will be prevented . Here is an example of what we teach .
Correct Crossing Procedure
1 . Stop at edge of the bumper . 2 . Look left , right , then left again .
3 . Then look at the driver for the driver to signal to complete the crossing .
4 . Complete the crossing , stop . Walk , do not run .
