Dr Hugh Hall Young Carers ’ Scholarship
Eight students , who juggle their studies alongside caring for loved ones , have been given a helping hand thanks to a new scholarship which is kindly funded by our former Principal , Dr Hugh Hall .
The scholarship awards of £ 500 each provide extra financial support helping the young carers become more independent , giving them a boost to help make life a little easier in between caring , working and studying .
This scholarship was open to full and part-time students at Fife College who are young carers ( aged up to 26 years old ).
A young carer is someone who cares , unpaid , for a family member , friend or member of your community , regularly and on a long-term basis .
Hear how the scholarship will help some of those awarded :
Izabele Imbrazaite , Higher : Psychology : “ The scholarship means a lot to me , especially in these trying times of inflation and cost of living crisis . It will allow me to invest in my self-improvement and future in ways I couldn ’ t before . I will spend the money awarded to me to aid my further studies in graphic design by finally buying a working laptop that I can use . This is life changing in terms of opportunities it will allow me .”
Kelsey Syme - Certificate : Access to Further Education : “ I was so excited when I received the email about winning a scholarship . It ’ s going to really help me as I have been needing a laptop to help with my college work so this award really means a lot and will make it easier to do my work .”
Carson McLean - HND : Photography : “ I am very honoured to be accepted for this scholarship . The money received will be an amazing help in supporting my photography work . From props for the studio , to funding new gear that will open up many more genres of photography for me to explore .”
Shannon McAndrew - SVQ : Hairdressing : “ I ’ m very grateful for winning the scholarship and this will help me a lot as I would like to be a mobile hairdresser in the near future and this will help as I need to get more equipment and pay for products , etc , for doing hairdressing . This will also help me stop stressing about struggling to buy more equipment and products . So , thank you so much !”
Ellie Fraser - HND : Business ( with Management ): “ Hearing back that I was successful in this scholarship was a boost in happiness and security as my mother has just passed away . The money will be spent on any costs towards that and continuing driving lessons .”
