Camryn Provan , from Dunfermline , completed a ‘ Graphic Design Intensive ’ course with the prestigious Pratt Institute in New York alongside a ‘ Personal Branding Development Course ’ with a New York Communication and Branding Company .
Megan Simpson , from Dunfermline completed volunteering at the Sasha Bruce Youthwork centre for children and young adults and also studied Childhood Development part-time at the fantastic George Washington University .
The scholarships are generously funded by the George Lauder family and the Saint Andrew ’ s Society of the State of New York . They fully covered all expenses for both students ’ stays , including food , travel , and accommodation .
William Garner , the great-great grandson of George Lauder , took on a crucial role in orchestrating and co-ordinating the visits of both students . He ensured that they both had a highly enjoyable and unforgettable experience while making the most of every opportunity during their stay .
Both students were awarded the scholarship opportunity in January this year after successfully completing an application and interview process and both students flew out to New York and Washington , D . C . in June .
Camryn is a former Fife College student who studied HND Fashion and is currently in her third year at Heriot-Watt University where she is studying a degree in Fashion Branding and Promotion . Megan completed a BA Degree in Learning Difficulties and Disabilities with Fife College and Abertay University , earlier this year .
Said Camryn : “ Studying in New York City over the summer was truly an unforgettable experience that greatly impacted both my academic and personal growth . The city ’ s vibrant energy and diverse culture was a continuous source of creative inspiration , both inside and outside of class . Overall , it provided me with memories and knowledge I will forever be grateful for .”
Megan also relished her time in the USA and said : “ I am deeply grateful for the invaluable opportunity to live , study , and volunteer in the United States . Washington , D . C . is an exceptionally beautiful city , home to remarkable , innovative , and inspiring individuals . The skills and knowledge I have acquired through my involvement with Sasha Bruce Youthwork and my studies at George Washington University will significantly inform and enhance my efforts to support and assist others in my home community . The contrast between affluent and underprivileged communities was profoundly eye-opening , making it an incredibly enriching and transformative experience .”
