The strategy is apparently working, he adds. “Every
show we play I see new faces, which to me is the most
rewarding thing in the world. It means the message is
getting out.”
After working closely with the band on their EP and
witnessing first-hand Grüzer’s rise in the local music
scene, Matheson sees a bright future.
“They are making better decisions than many other
bands,” Matheson says. “A lot of potentially good bands
make bad decisions and that can really hurt them. It
only takes one bad recording or a handful of bad shows
to really sap a band’s momentum. By making good decisions and having clever ideas, all of their efforts are
creating positive results.”

young kid. I have had an obsession with stringed instruments ever since.
Jeremy: Musically, my biggest influence is Joey
Jordison.
Eddie: Musically, and non, my biggest influence was
probably my dad. He and my mom have stood behind
me my whole life and helped me pursue my dreams of
being a musician.
Tell us about your next shows and why we should
be there.
Jeremy: Because we’re awesome! lol
Eddie: We have shows at Live Bar in Greenville, NC,
the Coastal Carolina Agricultural Fair in New Bern,
NC, and the Somewhere Else Tavern in Greensboro,
NC. We are currently booking shows throughout the
winter. We are going to be playing some great shows
with some amazing artists. You really don’t want to miss
this roller coaster!
As a band, how often and for how long do you practice?
Derek: Every Sunday for about 3-4 hours.
Jeremy: A few hours a week.
Eddie: When we first started out together, practices
tended to be around 5-6 hours. We still pull some marathon sessions when we are working on new tunes, but
we all work on the music on our own during the week.

It gives us a chance to tweak certain things, then bring
new ideas to the table.
What advice would you give to someone putting
together their first band? Would you encourage or discourage them?
Eddie: Keep practicing. Stay focused. There will be
naysayers along the way that will try to dissuade you
from following your dreams. DO NOT listen to them.
It probably won’t happen overnight, and it will take a
lot of work. You will get discouraged, and you will have
times you feel like giving up, but if you keep going it will
be worth it.
Derek: Encourage them. Never give up. Keep on going. Music is like therapy, only you get paid and don’t
have to pay a therapist.
Lee: I would like to encourage anyone with the will
and the drive to succeed in there own musical endeavors. If you are starting a band make sure it is something
you all enjoy first and foremost. Your band mates are
your brothers. Be willing to work with one another incorporating your material and style with one another
when you write material. Make a group effort and a
group decisions.
The rest of the world needs to see what you have in
store for us. We do not need the opportunity to pass us
by. Keep it going and keep it alive because we have all
got some big shoes to fill. If you have a really bad personality complex then you might have problems keeping a band because it is a team!
Jeremy: You’re gonna have to start small. Don’t expect to make big bucks from small bars. Get out there
and network with bars and bands.
As we finish this interview is there anything you
would like to add?
Derek: Thanks to Sceneazine as well as our families,
fans, and all the people that believe in Point 08.
Eddie: Thank you and Sceneazine for this opportunity. Thank you to our awesome sponsors, Dirtbag
Clothing (www.dirtbag.com) and MusicLife (www.musiclifeshop.com). Thanks to Jaycee from 99.5 The X, and
Rich Kaos and NipNyce from Uncharted Kaos.

With their dedication and longevity, and the introduction of new, original music, it doesn’t seem like Citizen Flea is going anywhere but upward and onward.
Something their fans are very vocal in expressing their
happiness about.

As a band, how often and for how long do you practice?
2-3 times a week sometimes more if needed, sometimes less because we are so busy. When we write we
spend a lot of time together in the practice pit!
What advice would you give to someone putting
together their first band? Would you encourage or discourage them?
Follow your dreams, get ready for disappointment,
there’s lots of ups and downs, long hard hours of practice and longer hours of paperwork, internet, booking,
networking, and constatly on your toes on the phone!
As we finish this interview is there anything you
would like to add?

the top. Do you guys have that dream or do you care if
you get a recording contract?
It would be cool but we p
