Threatpoint
T
by John Smithson
hreatpoint is an original metal band from
Scranton, PA. Their sound is a combination of
many genres and influences. Groove however
is always the key to their
music. Attention to the
fans and the live show
are always foremost
in the writing process.
Check them out for
yourselves, they don’t
disappoint!
So how long have
you guys been together
as a band? Share with
us a brief history.
Since March 2012,
Brief history 2 of our old
bands played together
both fell apart and out
of knowing each other
from the past, we sat
down at Perkins and
discussed a new idea.
This is how Threatpoint began.
Who in the band came up with your name? What, if
any, reason did you guys choose your name?
Chris and CJ... Chris shot out the word Threat and
CJ had came up with the point half, meaning we will be
in your face at the Threatpoint, we actually had another
2 names but dropped them, we needed something very
Metal with a lil Old School twist.
What are the members names and what instrument
do they each play?
Chris James/Vocals, Alex Olivetti/Guitar, Dave
Visbisky/Guitar, Ron Martin/Bass, and CJ Krukowski/
Drums
Who are some of you guys influences? Would you
say that’s where you get your sound from?
Influences , there are so many, The Doors, Testament, Metallica, Devildriver, Megadeth, Iron Maiden,
Nevermore/Sanctuary,Sevendust, etc... Our sound is a
mixture of everybody’s different backgrounds, We are
all different ages and grew up in different eras, so all
together it becomes a great mix of flavors.
At what age did you guys decide you wanted to be
in a band? Is that the same time you become interested
in Music?
Like I said we grew up in different eras but all grew
up with music as a huge influence in our lives. So, Its
always been in our hearts, kinda, like a blessing and a
curse all in one.
When it comes to creating Is there one person who
writes all the songs? Or do you guys write them as a
band?
Finalized as a band, we all have a say.

Where do you usually gather songwriting
inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Looking around the planet at its lovely creatures and
those you meet along
your journey.
Writing wise...Usually starts with Alex and
Chris on guitar,( Chris
plays guitar just not live,
also records in studio)
sometimes it starts with
a vocal melody idea,
Chris writes the lyrics,
and sometimes CJ helps
come up with melody lines with him. But
now Ron and Dave have
joined so their ideas will
be added to the mix.Ron
came late on our newest
album but wrote all the
bass lines and helped
with 2 songs. Dave is
brand new to us.
Do you guys have
any favorite local or regional bands that you really like?
Have you ever shared a
stage with them?
IKILLYA from NYC,
Cause of Affliction from
Wilkes Barre, PA. yes
we have played a lot of
shows with them.
What’s your opinion
of your music scene? And
what would you like to
see change?
Music scene varies
where you go, some places have better vibes than
others, Crowds are more
alive in certain venues
than others. This Pay to
Play Bullshit is ridiculous, Back in the day you
played and got paid, you
always help promote, but
venues and agents did
more legwork. Now they
expect us the bands to do
it all.
Do you think that online presence like Facebook or Twitter is important for fans to find
you? Do you have either
or both?
Yes Definitely, Social Media is a great way to connect
with people in places before you ever get there. You can
promote your shows that are far away from you.You can
build a network of people around you that may never
have heard of you without the net.
Speaking of online, where can fans find your music?
Do you have any free downloads?
CD Baby, Itunes, Amazon, Spotify, Gallery of Sound
