Sceneazine.com Scene Stealers by Patricia Jones H ere in the Carolinas there are so many talented musicians and artists that often it can be easy to find a few that you like and never step outside your comfort zone. From metalcore to progressive to thrash and beyond, the Carolinas are rife with talented artists just waiting for an audience. Here are a few of my personal favorites in the scene today: one’s anger, Fall Of An Empire creates a sonic journey through which it’s easy to slip and freefall effortlessly. Led by the sultry and smoky vocals of Kenny Lawrence, Fall Of An Empire combine some of the best elements of bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Monster Magnet to create a banquet of sound that is unparalleled in the Upstate scene today. If you haven’t already checked out any of these bands, do yourself a favor and take the time to do it. There are too many talented people in the South for them not to get the recognition they deserve and that all starts with you, the listener. Most artists will admit that without being able to do and share what they love, they feel empty. So, support your local scene and go out and see these bands and more! Stay tuned for more “must-see” performers of the Carolinas on next month’s “Scene Stealers!” A Mile At Sea Neverfall Fans of thrash metal in the Upstate rejoice at the domineering force known as Neverfall. These guys are working to bring real thrash back to the Upstate in a big way. With influences ranging from Metallica to Death Angel to Pantera, Neverfall has a foundation of the classics to support their riffing and roaring and to inspire a plethora of material to consume the masses. The guys have recently recorded and pressed their newest EP As The World Burns which features the blood sweat and tears the guys pour out on stages compressed into one convenient package for your listening pleasure. The CD release show is set to take place on August 16th at Ground Zero in Spartanburg, S.C along with Affirmative Insanity, Centura, Images, and Alias For Now. From the way they tear up the stage to the way their piercing guitars shred the air, Neverfall should definitely be on your must-see live list this year. Hailing from Greenwood, S.C, A Mile At Sea (also known as AMAS) have been bringing metalcore to the Upstate since 2010. These guys combine screams with cleans to create a metal mash up that easily infects every ear in the room. Between the vocal diversity of vocalist Jordan Caparell and the instrumental fire of guitarists Andrew Johnson and Michael Smith paired with the percussive pain brought by drummer Ryan Doolittle and bassist Eric Johnson, AMAS have all the ingredients to a musical feast for the ears. Aside from their musical prowess, they’re also some of the most down-to-Earth guys you’ll ever meet with a wicked sense of humor. With song titles like “Chewbaccalypse” and “Hans Solo Cup,” it’s safe to say that not only are they metalcore mavens, t
