ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

A Nursing Student Looks Back by Joan Noonan

My twin brother , Larry , and I started attending RCC full-time in September 1960

Joan Noonan in 1960 to fulfill required courses for part of
our nursing education at the Rockland State Hospital School of Nursing . We took classes in English , Anatomy and Physiology , Microbiology and more .
When we first came to RCC , the only building was Brucker Hall . This original building housed the library , classrooms and offices . The Barn served as a meeting place for students and staff . To get to school , we took the hospital bus . One of us would have to carry the skeleton for our Anatomy and Physiology class because the College did not yet have one . As a joke , one student
The Barn as it appeared in the 1960s . It hosted a multitude of activities including performing arts , athletics , dances and more , until it was destroyed by fire in 1979 .

NURSING GRAD GETS SELFIE WITH ADELE

Two dads and their baby were called up on stage at the Adele concert in Toronto in October for a selfie with the British singer . The dad in the center is Nursing graduate Steven Carroll ’ 15 . would place an unlit cigarette in between two of the skeleton ’ s fingers . My brother and I eventually transferred to Fairleigh Dickinson University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing .
Approximately 40 years later , I joined the RCC Senior Citizens Club and began auditing classes at the College . There are so many more types of classes offered now . I have audited classes in ballet , jazz dance , photography , ethics , hiking and Spanish . The student body has grown to include thousands of students from all over the world . The campus itself has also grown to include many more buildings and additional locations beyond the main Suffern campus .
The RCC Senior Citizens Club is thankful for the administration ’ s support and appreciates the opportunity to meet in the Technology Center Ellipse . I am proud to have known RCC both in the past and in the present !
