Rockland Community College Named #1
Community College in New York for Adults
R
ockland Community College is the best
community college in New York for
adult learners, according to Washington
Monthly’s recent annual College Guide and
rankings. RCC rated #28 nationwide out of
nearly 1,500 two-year colleges.
The survey, in its second year, is the first of
its kind to cater to students age 25 and older,
who comprise 40% of all college students in
the United States. The popular US News &
World Report college rankings do not include
community colleges, nor do they offer a
category geared for adult learners.
The Washington Monthly survey used data
from two federal government sources as
well as the College Board’s Annual Survey
of Colleges. It then combined the data into
seven measures of colleges’ openness and
responsiveness to adult students and how
well those students fared once they left. These
measures are: ease of transfer, number of adult
students, cost of attendance, flexibility of
programs, support services, post-graduation
earnings and loan repayment.
“We are very pleased to be recognized
for the outstanding opportunities we offer
to adult learners, including evening and
weekend programs, abundant internships,
onsite daycare, online courses and robust
support services,” said Dr. Michael A. Baston,
President, Rockland Community College.
“We are proud of the success of our adult
students, who achieve their transfer or career
goals with a minimum of debt.”
