Letter from the President of the SBOA, Ian Burnstein
It gives me great pleasure to share the second edition of SBOA: The Magazine.
The initial plan was to create only one a year but the demand and response of
our first edition exceeded all expectations. Our readership was more than double
our projections and the demand to publish articles was too large to publish only
once a year.
Our industry continues to evolve, change and improve. Since our last publication
we have seen explosive growth in development and two new REITS (Jernigan
Capital and National Storage Affiliates) have launched. This edition will highlight
many of these exciting new developments in our industry.
The enhanced buying power of the SBOA has allowed us to create a membership
base of nearly 5,000 member-facilities. We are more than twice the size of the
largest self-storage REIT. By joining together, owners of all sizes and numbers of
facilities have access to cost-saving opportunities that they would not ordinarily
have.
Once again we would like to thank our members and vendors for their support
and trust in the SBOA. SBOA constituents believe in a mutually beneficial
relationship: carefully selected vendors support the operators through premier
pricing and service. In return, members understand and benefit from strength in
numbers in their purchasing decisions.
