“ Everyone will tell you it is not the best paid job in the world , you cannot make a full living at it because you are a week here , a week there , a week at home ”
said Andy
EXCITING CONTENT there , a week at home ,” said Andy . “ In the winter I have done all sorts . Worked for the Post Office delivering letters , I have worked for the local council spreading salt on the icy road to keep the earnings going , but it is a great life . Driving in Europe is fantastic . You can actually get somewhere . There are a lot of places you can park in Europe but it can get a bit tricky late at night . It can get busy and you can really tired , driving for hours , and pull into the services - but there is nowhere to park . These huge 40 foot American motorhome , 17.5 tons , the services are not built for them , and when they have concrete walls everywhere that you have to try and get around … Quite often I end up parking on the other side of a Peage , just pull in there .” Unlike the drivers of the biggest articulated commercial vehicles , Andy and co are not on a tachograph , with legally limited hours . “ It is good because you can pretty much be your own boss . If you are tired , you stop ! It is one of these jobs whereby if something breaks down at the side of the road you have to try and fix it .” Andy normally sleeps in a small trailer towed behind the Motorhome for race weekends , but Andy also said the job can have some perks too . “ Everybody I have driven motorhomes for has kindly let us have them for holidays . I will just stop off en route and then my wife will fly out to meet me , and then we can have a little holiday in this . We have been lucky because people have been so generous and good to us .” Sounds like more work than it first appears , but it sounds like a lot of fun too
