It is amazing to see one of those massive American style motorhomes in the metal , and close up . The slide out living areas , the full leather sofas , the big screen TVs . Carpets you are not allowed to walk on in outdoor shoes . The big ones have the lot . An apartment on wheels . Why ? Well , for those who elect to have one , and can afford to have one , they are a rider ’ s own completely controllable private space inside the often frantic and always public world that is a motorcycle racing circuit on a race weekend . Some riders prefer a hotel , but for the likes of Leon Haslam , Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea , a motorhome works best . Leon ’ s large American-style motorhome is a fixture in WorldSBK paddocks , and for him it is a place to be himself , away from the world . “ Some people get it by going back to their hotel and switching off - taking about that down-time ,” he stated . “ I want to leave the issues I have had on the garage or on the track , in the garage or on the track . So to have that base , not being in hospitality with someone , or not being in the team truck , or wherever it may be that you decide to sit during the day . To go back there , to put the SKY TV on , watch a film , have a coffee , relax … It is there . It is not ten miles down the road . And it is something you can do for ten minutes even before a session . Or an hour before a session .
