By 1976 the first race in the inaugural ‘ Superbike ’ Championship took place at Daytona .
According to some sources , the name ‘ Superbike ’ was born in 1969 as a result of Honda creating the first 750cc motorbike , the CB750 , after which the term ‘ Superbike ’ soon went on to become a household name . In 1973 the first American races for ‘ Production Superbikes ’ made history and by 1976 the first race in the inaugural ‘ Superbike ’ Championship took place at Daytona . By 1988 the Superbike World Championship was born and continues to grow today . As the leading production-based motorcycle Championship , the key values of SBK™ ’ s brand identity are reflected in the passion , highly competitive and exciting race experience , as well as the unprecedented level of accessibility that have made SBK™ so popular with fans around the world .
