As far as Italian race winners go , Misano is up there with the best for the local fans to remember .
Hence the Misano Adriatico circuit was born . Also previously called the Circuito Internazionale Santa Monica in the past , Misano ’ s re-invention means it is worth of the name Misano World Circuit . The tragic loss of MotoGP™ hero Marco Simoncelli and the outpouring of love for the rider born in nearby Cattolica saw his name honoured in the very title of his local circuit , and the track honoured by association with him . He , like many thousands before and since him , were veterans of competition from an early age in the nearby kart tracks and minimoto circuits that sit behind the beaches all along the coast . It is not an exaggeration to say that the entire Misano area , with the MWC / MC at the centre of it , is the racing kindergarden of generations of Italian stars . Fun and fast in general , Misano and its surrounding area are like a magnet for would-be racers , who start off on minimotos and end up on 200 + bhp MotoGP™ and Superbike machinery . And just a few kilometres from the training grounds that made them when they race at Misano . This round – the first one in Italy since 2019 , will be called the Visit Italy round , as so may aspects of Italian culture as well as the obvious holiday vibe are enticements to come and see a part of the world that has been the centre of European civilisation and culture for Millenia . The highpoint in 2021 will be the acceptance of some spectators , in one of the countries in the WorldSBK scene that still has an obvious passion and appetite for World Superbike .
