EXCITING CONTENT an integral part of the Island ’ s regular road network at all other times . What makes it different from other ‘ road ’ circuits ? Well , even the best friends of the Isle of Man TT course and other pure road venues know that the racetrack really is a road that just happens to be used for racing , in between the permanent roadside ‘ furniture ’ of houses , walls and hillsides . It is also not a kind of Indonesian Nördschleife - the old Nürburgring - which although technically German public road was actually built as a super-long racetrack first and foremost . Mandalika is going to consist of a 4.3 km long fully modern racetrack layout , with 11 right hand corners and six lefts , with some infrastructure being designed from the outset as dual purpose and some being deliberately temporary , only used for race weekends , or only re-erected used for when it becomes a road for most of the year . The layout is a mixture of fast corners , long and more technical sections , with a main straight on the shore side of just over 500 metres in length . There will be 40 garages in pitlane . No-one has been there yet but the layout is now complete , and it looks incredibly flowing in many places , with a tight final section surely providing ideal opportunities for last lap passing manoeuvres and other dramas . A new idea of what a race circuit can be , a remarkable execution that is still ongoing even as we write this , but which will be ready to host the entire WorldSBK paddock and a maximum of 25,000 spectators … for now . When fully finished , and after the all-clear from the global pandemic , there should be around 50,000 seats . The final standing areas will be designed to host another 138,000 people ! The hospitality units will finally hold a huge 7,700 guests . MotoGP™ will use Mandalika for the first time next season , but the global racing class that will get to use this intriguing circuit first of all will be WorldSBK . It is maybe long overdue that Indonesia as a nation in its own right hosts major two wheel racing again , given the fact that major bike racing stars often visit this important area for not just bike sales but a passionate interest in racing . That time has now firmly passed as
Indonesia is coming back into FIM World Championship racing with a very high profile and unique viewpoint on how to host races . And now only how , but why ? Located next to Bali , Lombok already has an important tourist economy but the circuit is at the centre of that special economic area designed to bring more tourists to Lombok itself . The overall venue is also designed to be a commercial , exhibition and conference centre when not used as a racetrack . Surrounded by bays and beaches on its coasts , and natural wonders inland , Lombok ’ s new track is a physical manifestation of the desire of national and local government and commerce to raise the profile and importance of the area ,
