Probably more , and more nuanced , things than you first imagined . John explains the breadth of the operation “ The marshals on duty fall into four groups ,” he said , “ the ‘ Pitlane Team ,’ monitoring activities in Pitlane including the opening and closing of the pit exit at the start of sessions , and the build up to race starts . At race starts they cover each row with a grid number and yellow flag to warn of stalled bikes .
