Two Portuguese circuits will host WorldSBK rounds in 2022 , just like the last two years . Portimao will welcome us to the Algarve later in the year , but the most established short circuit in the country is about to wrap us all in a warm embrace first . Estoril - an old WorldSBK favourite and a prodigal more recently - is a popular fixture on the contemporary calendar .
Estoril is as Portuguese as Fado , pastel de nata or a glass of port . Built in 1972 , the track near the coastal playground of Estoril is also within a short riding distance of the capital city , Lisbon . Even before you consider the many positive aspects of the circuit itself , Estoril ’ s proximity to beach resorts , the ease of international travel via Lisbon and the expectations of good weather when we get there in May is as intoxicating as the fresh sea air that rolls in from the nearby Atlantic .
The circuit itself has hosted four previous WorldSBK race weekends . It was actually a trailblazer for WorldSBK , hosting a round in the very first season of 1988 , then again in 1993 . It made a happy modernday return in 2020 . The layout is not as flat as it looks on TV , with some long dips and subtle climbs . But in all honestly , the ‘ Corkscrew ’ section at this round is reserved for the vinho in your hotel after a happy day of racing .

Portimão vai dar-nos as boas-vindas ao Algarve no final do ano , mas o circuito há mais tempo estabelecido do país es-tá prestes a envolver-nos a todos num abraço caloroso antes disso . O Estoril – um velho favorito do Mundial de Superbike que regressou como um filho pródigo – é um evento muito popular no calendário atual .
O Estoril é português como o fado , o pastel de nata ou o vinho do Porto . Construído de 1972 , a pista situada junto da zona balnear do Estoril dista uma curta distância de Lisboa , a capital do país . Antes mesmo de considerar os muitos aspectos positivos do pró-prio circuito , a proximidade do Estoril às praias , a facilidade das viagens internacionais por Lisboa e a expectativa de bom tempo quando lá chegarmos , em Maio , é tão inebri-ante como o a brisa fresca que sopra do Atlântico , situado mesmo ali ao lado .
O circuito foi palco de quatro rondas do Mundial de Superbike . Na verdade , foi um pio-neiro ao acolher o mundial no seu ano de estreia , em 1988 , e novamente em 1993 . E registámos com alegria o seu retorno na era moderna , em 2020 . O traçado não é tão plano
