EXCITING CONTENT has new found fame , status , and public focus done to Toprak ? How has his life changed , no matter how much he wanted to remain a lad from a normal town in Turkey ? He always went home at every available opportunity to live a quiet family life inside his own Asian culture in his country of birth . But surely there must have been a big recent change for Toprak , now he is a World Champion in the biggest production-derived championship of all ?
Well , sort of . “ My life is not changing , but some people are looking now a little bit after I became world champion ,” he said . “ Also in Turkey I ’ m a little bit more famous . A little bit more , because motorcycling not so big . Always football is very important in Turkey . But everybody now understands this sport . This is good . But , for me , what is very important is my character , not the title . After you are world champion this is a good title to have , but most important always is my character . I never change my character because I have learned from my family to be like this . Some riders , some people after the world championship , they change . They ’ re feeling like they are a star . I ’ m not like this . This is just a world title . After you finish your career , everybody knows your character , not your title . I see it like this .”
There was a significant uptick in his PR duties after winning the title , as you would expect . “ After the championship , I went to many TV things - but normally I don ’ t like them . I ’ m shy . I think I was maximum five times busier than normal .”
Shy he may be , but Toprak is also a very open person , with gradually improving communication skills in the de facto global language of English . “ Yeah , maybe I ’ m learning ,” said Toprak . “ I hope next year I ’ m learning more English . We are much better , because my english is now internet . Bem , de certa forma . “ A minha vida não tem mudado , mas algumas pessoas olham agora um pouco mais para mim depois de me ter sagrado campeão mundial ”, disse . “ Também na Turquia sou um pouco mais famoso . Um pouco mais , porque o motociclismo não é um desporto grande . O futebol sempre foi mais importante na Turquia . Mas agora toda a gente entende o motociclismo . Isso é bom . Mas para mim , o que é importante é a minha personalidade e não o título . É bom teres um título de campeão do mundo , mas mais importante será sempre o meu caráter . Eu nunca o mudo porque aprendi com minha família a ser assim . Alguns pilotos , algumas pessoas mudam depois de alcançarem um campeonato mundial . Sentem-se como estrelas . Eu não sou assim . No final de contas , isto é apenas um título mundial . Depois de terminares a tua carreira , toda a gente te conhece pelo teu caráter e não pelo título que conseguiste .”
