At only 22 years of age the prime of Axel Bassani is probably still to be reached . Maybe at 25-27 he will be the best he can be ? So where does he aim to be in five years time . What is his ambition ? “ I hope to become world champion ,” he said , simply . There is ambition aplenty behind the perma-grin .
At this his home round in Misano , the only Italian race on the 2022 calendar , how different is it from any other round for Axel ? “ Misano is different because it ’ s the race of ‘ my house ,‘” he said , “ so , you feel strange because you feel a little bit more pressure . It ’ s not easy to manage with this pressure . But it ’ s good because when you see the people around the track to push you to do more , it ’ s good !” The external pressure is obvious - you may well be contributing to it right now , trackside - but the impetus from inside his own heart at his home round “… Yeah , you feel something different . It ’ s normal , I think .”
Normal is a word often used by Bassani , as that is how he would describe himself when he was asked to describe his character to anybody who did not know him . “ I think I ’ m a very normal guy . I need to stay with my family , with my dog . I did a lot of work with my dogs . I have a golden retriever , and another little dog . I also have a cat . I like to stay in my home with my girlfriend . I didn ’ t do a lot of parties because I ’ m a relaxed guy . I don ’ t like to argue . I want to stay calm and enjoy my life . Nothing special …”
He is also not a big social media player , which also helps with re-charging and de-pressurising after the intensity of race weekends . “ It ’ s important for me . When you are home , you are home . When you are at the circuit , you are at the circuit . It ’ s two different things . It ’ s very difficult if you put it all together . It ’ s not easy to stay focused with your mind .” His desire to get home to his quiet life in the mountains all sounds very zen and perfumed . And it usually is . Until there is the chance of competition . Any kind of competition , it seems . “ I ’ m a very competitive boy . I don ’ t like to lose . I like a lot to win , like when I play cards or when I play bowling . I like to win . When the adrenaline of competition starts to come out , I change . My mind changes . I want to win !”

Questo è un momento particolarmente favorevole per essere un pilota “ privato “, poiché le regole sono le stesse per tutti , anche per le squadre indipendenti . Al momento di andare in stampa Bassani era già tra i primi sei in condizioni di asciutto nel 2022 , nonostante avesse iniziato la stagione dei test invernali più tardi di quando avrebbe voluto .
Ovviamente il prossimo passo è quello di diventare un pilota ufficiale . A giudicare dai suoi recenti commenti , anche il Campione del Mondo 2011 Carlos Checa ha visto in Bassani il potenziale per passare ad essere un pilota ufficiale . Axel è consapevole della sua attuale situazione favorevole , potendo contare su di una moto competitiva , ma vorrebbe ovviamente progredire il più rapidamente possibile . “ Sì , ora è possibile avere un equipaggiamento molto simile a quello degli ufficiali “ ha confermato Axel . “ Non c ‘ è molta differenza . Quanto è diverso dagli altri questo round di casa di Misano per Axel , l ‘ unica gara italiana del calendario 2022 ? “ Misano è diversa perché è la gara di ‘ casa mia ‘” ha affermato “ quindi ti senti un poco strano ed avverti maggiormente la pressione . E non è facile da gestire . Ma va bene quando vedi le persone attorno alla pista che ti incitano a fare di più !” La pressione esterna è alta ed anche tu che leggi potresti contribuire ad incrementarla da bordo pista . In gara lo slancio gli arriva dal profondo del cuore ...“ Sì , avverti qualcosa di diverso . È normale , credo “.
Normale è una parola usata spesso da Bassani , perché così si descriveva quando gli veniva chiesto di parlare del proprio carattere a chi non lo conosceva . “ Penso di essere un ragazzo molto normale . Ho bisogno di stare con la mia famiglia , con il mio cane . Ho trascorso molto tempo con i miei cani . Ho un golden retriever ed un altro cagnolino . Ho anche un gatto . Mi piace stare a casa mia , con la mia ragazza . Non frequento molto le feste , perché sono un ragazzo tranquillo . Non mi piace litigare . Voglio stare calmo e godermi la vita . Niente di speciale ...“
