Single make production bike championships have been a treasure trove of emerging talent over the years and the latest of them - the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup - provides an exciting mix of accessibility , visibility and the promise of close action for young riders with an eye on the ultimate prize of competing in the WorldSBK championship one day . All riders will play this particular game with the same hand of cards dealt from the house - a gleaming blue Yamaha R3 .
The 2021 Donington weekend will feature the WorldSBK class as the main event of course but possibly the most compelling class of all will be the allnew Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup .
Featuring ambitious riders from a tender 12 years of age to 20 this new one make series uses identical race-prepped Yamaha R3s for the 25 regular competitors to compete with each other to achieve immediate success . That is the immediate attraction for all , but on a more strategic level it is designed to move the best of these young hopefuls toward a full-time career as a pro rider in WorldSBK .
This series is the first part of a new strategy from within WorldSBK itself to first find and then nurture young talent to become the stars of tomorrow . This is the start of the SBK ® Roadway programme , a new initiative to help young riders to reveal their talent in the WorldSBK pathway .
