Birchanger Wood News
First walk in September was
brilliant....a trip to Debden... and a
lovely day ‘to boot’.
Newport to Debden took us through
chalk loam-lands of northern Essex
which provided a propensity for
both UP and DOWN...some of
them requiring quite a bit of ‘puff’.
There were an amazing number of
sloe bushes....so I must buy some
quantities of gin or vodka, go back and
pick, this bountiful crop of sloes and
make some ridiculously easy sloe gin/
vodka and this walk will be followed
by other ‘goodies’.....
October takes us over to the east to
Stanstead Abbots which is always an
interesting wander with a very varied
and usually green countryside and
maybe some water...I don’t know the
planned route, but it could include
the river Lee/and or its tributaries or
wetlands - so join us and explore.
The later October walk planned walk
takes us again North Essex, out to
Clavering.......an area of mild Essex
hills and wide open countryside and
usually some terrifi c views - so again,

do come along and be surprised.
November - well what....the list is
being compiled.....

So looking forward to Natural
expectations in Birchanger Wood in
October - well the Wood should be
experiencing closure as the weather
cools down and wet days become
more frequent .... the tree-leaves will
have started dropping and fungi will
be appearing in the woodland fl oor
and on any fallen or dead trees. And
what a display this can be? I do not
have crystal ball and the BBC weather
forecasting is not perfect - so, I would
love you to tell me of your experience,
AND send me photographs of your
visit to the woodland in September.
Also, by the time you are reading this,
the NEW TRUST and fl edgling possible
trustees will have met for the fi rst time
together - however, if you have missed
out, there is always time for you to
volunteer and you can discuss what
this means with Pat, myself or Roger
Diverse Performing Arts
Sawbridgeworth based musical
theatre school Diverse Performing Arts
celebrated its students’ achievements
over the past year at its 7th annual
presentation night at the Memorial
Hall on Saturday 8th September.
The top award of the night, Student
of the Year, was won by 13 year old
Emma Lacey, whilst the award for the
highest LAMDA exam mark of the
year went to Felix Waugh (12) for an
incredible 100% in his grade 3 musical
theatre exam.
Individual awards in singing, dancing
and acting were also handed out,
before the students and parents

Wilmot. You can be a secretary, fund
raiser, work physically in the Wood,
be treasurer, run an event, whatever.
There is room for most opportunities
and certainly for your suggestions.
So, enjoy October, Halloween, and
fungi, I have this month included a

Also, I see from the Stortford
Independent that there will be a litter

September....I have to say I am very
sorry BUT this time I AM UNABLE
TO JOIN YOU, this does not stop me
saying a BIG BIG THANK YOU ....this is

evening. Diverse principal Ria
Dongworth said “We are extremely
proud of all of our students yet again
this year. All of our groups gained
distinctions in their LAMDA exams,
whilst every single individual who
took an exam during the year also
gained a merit or distinction, which
is a wonderful record. The students
also produced fantastic performances
at our winter Showcase at Hertford
Theatre and in our two summer shows,
which this year included Legally
Blonde by our senior students. We are
looking forward to another successful
and enjoyable year at Diverse!”
