vulnerable of these families may
experience homelessness.
The National Low Income Housing
Coalition tracks housing affordability
trends for low- and very-low-income
populations annually in its Out of Reach
report, 11 which calculates the affordability
gap between the fair market value of
renting a housing unit and what low wage
workers are earning. For Marion County,
the wage needed to afford a two-bedroom
housing unit is $32,360 or $15.56 per hour
(which is, unsurprisingly, close to the
threshold where cost-burden becomes less
of an issue as shown in Figure 11, page 19).
