2010 (In Search of Chiang Mai) – Some of us organised a visit to a male strip club frequented by tourists late one night. Although it was not as terrifying as I expected it to be, it still haunts me till today. Also, Dr Yeoh made us cycle all around Chiang Mai without telling us how far the distances from one point to another actually were. Mr Sharaad Kuttan 2013 (In Search of Iloilo) - It was a reunion for some of us. Five alumni from the Baguio & Sagada study trip returned to the Philippines in what is my best holiday till this very day. Before joining up with the student- travellers in Iloilo, Dr Yeoh had suggested that we visit the nearby island of Boracay which was still relatively untouched at that point in time. I learnt to always be at class on time and never skip a lesson, if you get what I mean. Planning trips to unfamiliar places has never been a burden for me since. I learnt that the pen is mightier than the sword. Indeed, it really is. Dr Jaganathan Marimuthu Mr Benjamin McKay I will not say much about him apart from the fact that he treated me well. In fact, he treated all the male students well. As for the female students, I don’t know where exactly to begin. It’s best if you get it straight from them. I enjoyed movies. And Ben McKay allowed me to enjoy my movies the way I wanted to. In fact, he made sure everyone enjoyed, loved, and appreciated films. His sudden passing in 2010 was indeed a shock to all of us. But Ben is always remembered for the cheerful and jovial man he was. I am sure he is watching over all his students still. Dr Andrew Ng If Pavarotti was still alive and heard Dr Andrew sing, he would be in awe. And if any of you ever got the chance to hear him sing, you’d agree with me. Probably the best tenor vocal in Monash if not Malaysia. PS: Androids do really dream of electronic sheep, okay. I learned about the complexity of life and sex. Yes, and read The Lover. Mr Jeswant Singh The man who got me my first job. An internship recommendation from him got me started on my journalism career, and I have never looked back since. I started to believe that anyone can do movies. It’s how we watch them and appreciate the art of a film. Deejay DD Yes, we had a radio DJ teach us radio and TV journalism. And it was also from this unit that I learnt the real struggle of post-production work. Not everything we watch and listen to is as simple as we think it is. 61 I learnt something important in that class: Never mess with women if you are outnumbered. Before joining BFM and becoming famous, Sharaad taught in Monash while Dr Yeoh was away on his sabbatical. Although he was only a part time lecturer, his impact was powerful enough to leave a mark on most of his students.
