2013 ~ P R E S E N T | S T I L L E V O LV I N G Three Short Stories Bethanie Aik Graduation day! (2015) ▶ Short Story 1 My first week of class with Dr Andrew. 140 Arts? Oh... so that’s pretty easy, right? “…if you fail this assignment, you can flush your head down the toilet…I can help you.” So, my first week in Monash was pretty traumatising. When I walked into the hall, I was drawing a lot of attention because: 1) I was one of the few females in class 2) I was probably the only Chinese female in class that day I stood out like a sore thumb. Short Story 2 “So, what do you study in Monash” “Oh, I’m doing a double degree in both Business and Arts” “Arts? Oh…so that’s pretty easy, right?” “Sure, why don’t you try taking an Arts elective?” That person failed. So I sat on the last row of the lecture hall, playing with my phone, minding my own business. Until…I heard the lecturer say, “hey you, you. Girl at the last row.” *points at myself, looking extremely confused* “Yes you. Stop playing with your phone. What’s the formula for density?” *entire class turned their heads and looked at me* “…urm…mass/volume??” Short Story 3 I had a free slot during my first week in Monash and all my friends, who were doing Engineering, had this particular class to attend. Since I had nothing else better to do, I followed my friends just to burn time. *lecturer looking extremely annoyed, “yes, that’s correct” *continues teaching* All I can say is, thank goodness I paid attention in Physics during high school. No, I did not ever return to that class. The End. In a dog café in Bangkok (2018). ▶ Bethanie graduated with a double degree in Commerce & Business and Communication (majored in Economics and minored in Writing) in 2015.
