Understanding Humankind Through Gesture
Benjamin Lewis of the American Sign Language program at the University of California, Los
Angeles, is passionate about 'flying hands'. Fluent in not only ASL, but also Japanese Sign Language
and New Zealand Sign Language, Lewis is fascinated by watching not only deaf people in different
parts of the world as signers, but humans in general, who also use their hands to communicate with
others through gestures. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format that
was independently organized by the deaf community.
