“ New England – Our Deaf Community ” by Convo

This 20-minute video documentary produced by Convo ( https :// www . convorelay . com ) came out in November 2016 and is highly recommended viewing . While discussions on the sentiments that culturally deaf people may have is hard to capture in most venues of social media , Convo has successfully done so . " New England - Our Deaf Community - Convo " pursues an impactful theme discussing social issues in regard to the deaf community . Convo ' s documentary has raised the bar , beginning with the recognition of Martha ' s Vineyard as an inclusive community with both hearing and deaf residents knowing and using signed language . Different segments of the documentary follow and put an emphasis on how the deaf community has been persistent in the maintenance of their language and culture in a society that can be harsh and hostile . Coverage on hearing students who flock to take ASL courses serves as a hint for real and meaningful social changes to come . Deaf people ' s resilience in the face of adversity is captured in the documentary , ranging from a school for the deaf named after the deceased Marie Philip , to how schools for the deaf must prevail and thrive , to historical touches covering Gallaudet and Clerc , as well as portrayals of happy and well-adjusted deaf children and vibrant deaf people leading their New England lives .
