has increased ten-fold. While they may know more signs or perhaps just this sign, their communicative
behavior with me is greatly appreciated and is reflective of a changing society. I understand that many
signers are hearing and non-disabled, yet they serve an important role to deaf people. I am excited that
SASL as an organization is discussing new and fresh concepts for an ever changing societal dynamic.
In closing, I encourage readers of this newsletter to read the President's note in the spring 2017
issue regarding the concept of signers that is important to SASL. I believe strongly that SASL and its
specialization in research and scholarship will ultimately help contribute important information to
various organizations, including those with a strong interest in international affairs such as the World
Federation of the Deaf.
