For future research and scholarly avenues, it is important to keep in mind that VV can stand on its own and should not be considered as part of ASL literature. I am motivated in making this point in part due to the fact that some scholars have entertained the idea that VV is integral to ASL literature (see Signing the Body Poetic: Essays on American Sign Language Literature (2006) as an example). I welcome more scholars to pay more attention to understanding the nature of literature in general and how it applies to ASL literature. I would like to close this editorial by referring to Bernard Bragg’s obituary that was published in the Fall 2018 issue of this newsletter. Bragg's lifetime achievements are fascinating and deserve our due respect. References Abrams, M. H., & Harpham, G. G. (2015). A glossary of literary terms (11 th ed.). Stamford, CT: Cengage Learning.
