Dr. Yerker
Andersson
Dr. Yerker Andersson, a well-known deaf international leader and a strong advocate for deaf
people around the world, died on Monday, July 18, 2016 at age 86. Melissa Draganac-Hawk, President of
the National Association of the Deaf, says it best about Dr. Andersson. “[He] was a tremendous citizen of
the world, and had the rare ability to unite deaf people from all countries to ensure that governments
everywhere recognized our culture, our sign language, and our rights” (https://nad.org/news/2016/7/dryerker-andersson-international-leader-and-activist). His complete biography including his academic work

To date, the total number of the
single-authored works of ASL
literature captured in VHS, DVD,
and online publications is 441
including 80 for poetry, 18 for
drama, and 343 for prose. The
total number for the folkloristic
works is 27.
To the members of SASL, your contribution of a piece to be printed in the
newsletter is welcome. The content should be related to ASL and the number of words
is between 500 – 1000. The same is true for you to keep an eye out for the ASL-related
pieces that are already printed, but need to be reprinted in the SASL newsletter. Please
