Based on a true story in India , Toilet : Ek Prem Katha is a film that tells you how there is still people in the world that do not own a toilet in their houses . They believed that places where they pray are not supposed to have toilets together because of how sacred it is . There are
the lines that have been said in the movie asks , “ How can we build a toilet in the same courtyard where we worship ?”. It is no doubt that the mentality of these conservative folks must change in order to stop open defecation effectively . The fact that
{ EK PREM KATHA } BASED ON A TRUE STORY still some of the Indians who live in village think that way and believe that open defecation is normal . The inspiration of making this story into a film was inspired by a woman , Anita Bai Narre .
Anita who is one of the resident of Betul district in Madhya Pradesh , married a man from Chitoli Village of Bhimpur was stunned when she was left at the site of a field to defecate . With torment , she left her in-laws ’ house a couple of days after marriage . Akshay Kumar who is the lead actor played as Keshav , the husband of Jaya played by Bhumi Pednekar really hit the audience ’ s heart of how good they are in delivering the messages to people of India .
According to Akshay in one interview with CNN , it is hard to change the people ’ s mindset who already got used to this kind of condition because most of them come from rural area who think open defecation is normal for both men and women including kids .
“ 54 % of Indians do not have toilets and it is not because they could not afford it but because it is the mindset of their thinking that they believe that the way you cook , sleep , temples and pray you cannot have toilets ,” he explained .
In rural part of India , many have a strange outlook over the fact that open defecation is much healthier and having a latrine in a home somehow disrupt the purity . One of we have been able to launch rockets to Mars and send astronauts to the space and moon yet we are still not able to build latrines to end this problem that can lead to global sanitation crisis ; is just absurd .
Meanwhile , based on a research from United Nations Children ’ s Fund , 50 % of rape cases in India arise when women go to defecate themselves in open at the field . In 2014 , one case involving two lowcaste teenage girls were gang-raped .
