HJ cont:

I got the an opportunity after two years. Brother John Driscoll got me into Notre Dame where. I received my bachelor’s. Then I went on to the University of Michigan where I received my Master's degree. Then I taught for two years at Illinois State University, where I was an Associate Professor. I then moved to California. I received a scholarship to study at the London Shakespeare Academy through the actor Ted Lange, who was sponsoring acting competitions at the Inner City Cultural Center. I have been performing Shakespeare since my high school years and undergrad days and graduate days also , I’ve had the opportunity to be on stage. When I was at Notre Dame we still had to fight racism, but the Professors would always cast me in the plays and I was constantly on stage. When I was there approximately 50 black students were enrolled out of 7000 plus undergraduates. Maybe only 5 was there on academics scholarships and the others were there on athletic scholarships. Only three of the five of us on academic scholarship lived on campus.

My first year was difficult for me because my father passed the second month I was there.
