SYNAPSE - 2014 SYNAPSE - 2014 Students Association for the Promotion of Personnel Management, Human Resources and Industrial Relations at XLRI (SAPPHIRE) The past year has been a very fulfilling year for SAPPHIRE, with the committee organizing more than 10 events, publishing newsletters and the annual HR magazine. All this was done in association with well known organizations in various sectors of business including FMCG, Consulting, Banking etc. The events saw participation of more than 1000 students from all across the country. The Events… the bounds of the budget of Rs 3,50,000 and also to bring maximum diversity among the recruits. The objective for the employee teams was to maximize their salary through negotiation with the employer teams. In the second half of the round, the employers and the employees were swapped and the entire game was repeated. The teams that were able to hire the most diverse and the best job profiles and were also able to get them employed at the overall best packages emerged as winners for this round. The team with the maximum score for both the rounds emerged as the winner. All in all, the event lived up to its name ‘CHAOS’ and was a truly exciting and thrilling experience for the participants as well as the CHAOS’13 – The Ice Breaker event Once all the welcome activities was over and the junior batch was settled in XLRI, Sapphire launched its ICE breaker event CHAOS for the juniors. The event was conducted on 30th June 2013 at 10PM in Father Prabhu Hall. Students registered in teams of 4 and the event saw a huge participation. A total of 23 teams participated in the event. The entire event was spread across 2 rounds, wherein the first round was a general quiz on the latest happenings in businesses around the world. The second round was a recruitment based strategy game which put the teams through a whole lot of negotiations. The entire round was spread across two sub rounds. In the first half, half of the total teams were supposed to be the employers and the remaining half were to be the employees. Each member in the employee teams was provided with individual job specification sheets that contained the job grade, job profile and what value the job grade of the employee adds to the company. Job profiles were provided to only add diversity to the company. Employer teams were granted assets worth Rs.3,50,000 which were to be used as recruitment costs. The objectives for the employer teams was to hire 4 people such that they hired employees with highest possible grades within moderators. BODY SHOP – The SAPPHIRE Junior Event Once the selections and orientations were done with, the SAPPHIRE junior committee had to prove that they were up to the task. The junior team came up with the idea for Body Shop, a two-part event that tested both the participants’ knowledge and their ability to think under pressure and make quick decisions (not to mention the skill to strike a good bargain).
