Running To Empower Young Women
Running great , Olympian , and Sanlam Cape Town Marathon ambassador , Elana Meyer , is a familiar face at the race ’ s finish line - always there to welcome the marathon winners home .
This year she will be occupied elsewhere : Elana will run the marathon for the first time , to raise awareness of and funds for the Endurocad Young Women Empowerment Programme .
She will be joined by some high profile friends - Olympian Zola Budd , Rhoda Vetere , Nolene Conrad , Balance Moila , Dr Caroline Pule , Naiema Abrahams and Johnno Meintjies .
Running To Challenge The Norm
Anita Engelbrecht and Hilton Murray – known in the running community as TeamBlitsie – are familiar faces at marathons and ultras across South Africa .
Hilton is a veteran runner who has completed numerous marathons and ultra marathons , and has done exceptional work to use his running as a fundraising platform . Anita , the daughter of family friends , was born prematurely and has to use a wheelchair – but this powerhouse has done more races than your average Capetonian !
Together , they made history when they campaigned for the right to participate in road races , with Hilton pushing Anita in her jogger , and this dynamic duo has done every Sanlam Cape Town Marathon since they were first allowed to participate - including the 2020 Virtual Marathon .
Team Blitsie celebrate their 6th anniversary this year , and plan to continue running for as long as they can to break barriers and change perceptions .
