CAN DNA CHANGE?
BY LEE SOO BIN
DNA controls our motions, thoughts, habits, favorite sports, hobbies, faces and bodies in addition to all sorts of things. DNA decides who we are. But is this really true? Do we have to live in this one predestined way? Can we change our matrixes? Can we actually change our DNA? Yes, we can! We can change our lives and DNA. But how? Many people don ' t believe it, but it is true.
DNA can change through our environment and our thoughts. Scientists agree that heritable changes in genes( DNA), called epigenetic change, are regular and natural incidents, but can also be infuenced by age, environment, lifestyle, and disease. Epigenetic modifcations can change the manner in which cells end up as skin cells, liver cells, brain cells, etc. On the other hand, epigenetic change can have more damaging effects that can result in diseases like cancer.
Identical twins can be the perfect example of this: Many scientists research identical( monozygotic) twins that were dispersed and adopted by different families. Often, researchers notice that the differences when the twins become adults are similar but not the same. Therefore, we can see that the environmental conditions have a great impact on peoples ' lives.
DNA doesn ' t control us. We control ourselves!
