of the distinction . “ Other school districts can look to us as an example of how it should be done . … They don ’ t give this distinction to just anybody . They look at their top 10 percent of people who went through the process . We were in the top 10 % … I think it says we ’ re doing a good job .”
Washington County Superintendent Dr . Rickey Edmond says the award reflects the commitment of all who are involved in the district — from bus drivers , custodians , nurses and resources officers to teachers , front office staff , paraprofessionals and administrators .
“ We practice systems thinking , so we don ’ t do work in isolation or silos ,” he says . “ We work using smart teams and smart goals , and those goals are very targeted and student-centered . When you have that focus and that type of school culture , you can only get great results . It just speaks to the commitment of everybody in this organization .”
Edmond credits the success to a redesign of the district ’ s strategic plan that shifted focus to six big areas including leadership development , RTI / MTSS
