>>> BOOKS FOR ALL
Vivian Mansour Mansour
Between October 18th and the 21st, the
celebrated Mexican author Vivian
Mansour Manzur will be visiting San
Miguel de Allende, invited by the not for
profit organization, Libros para Todos.
The mission of Libros para Todos (LPT) is
to inspire a new generation of readers,
focusing efforts on rural communities
where access to books is limited.
Every year, LPT organizes a ‘big read’
with a well-known Mexican writer of
children’s literature. This fall the big
read will include two books by Vivian
Mansour Manzur: La vida útil de Pillo
Polilla from the publisher Castillo and
Flor del Rayo from the publisher
Pearson. LPT has purchased 600 copies
of these books to give to children in
rural schools and in after school
programs. The children have
approximately a month to read the
selected book and then they have the
chance to meet the author personally,
ask her questions, get their books signed
and share the love of reading with each
other.
This October, 500 children will participate in
the big read with Mansour.
Mansour discovered quite young her vocation
to tell amusing stories that not only delight
youth, but adults as well. Originally a student
of communication, she switched to literature
and has since won an array of awards such as
FILIJ de Cuento para Niños (1995), Certamen
Internacional A la Orilla del Viento (1997),
Premio de Literatura Infantil Castillo de la
Lectura (2000), and Valores Rotterdam
(2010).
She has been on the jury in a large number of
children's literature contests and is a
consistent guest at literary meetings to
present her personal work and to promote
reading in Mexico and abroad. Her works,
irreverent and with a great sense of humor,
are enjoyed by a greatly by readers
everwhere. Mansour is a member of the
Sistema Nacional de Creadores.
