San Francisco became
the first city in the nation
to form a Green Benefit
District – an innovative,
community-backed
approach to improve
neighborhoods.
2015 San Francisco Beautiful
Beautification Awards –
Partnership Award Winner
The district encompasses
two neighborhoods:
Dogpatch and Northwest
Potrero Hill. Property
owners in the special
assessment district voted
to levy an annual fee on
themselves to expand
the maintenance and
development of parks,
open spaces and green
infrastructure within its
boundaries. A nonprofit
board, elected at the
neighborhood level,
governs the district and
