San Francisco Language Access Ordinance Summary Report LAO 2020 - Jan 31 FINAL | Page 20
Department Highlights
The annual Language Access Ordinance Summary Report provides a snapshot
of the resources that departments dedicate to language services, how well they
meet their language access requirements, and how well they serve their Limited
English Proficient (LEP) clients.
By examining data from the LAO report, City departments and leaders can better
determine whether adequate resources are being dedicated to language services.
Although the City spends less than 1% of its budget on language services,
individual departments with higher degrees of contact with LEP individuals
often dedicate a greater percentage of their budgets to language services. These
departments also tend to understand the value of exceeding language access
requirements, by keeping their language access policies current, training their
employees adequately, and ensuring compliance with mandatory trainings.
