San Francisco Language Access Ordinance Summary Report LAO 2020 - Jan 31 FINAL | Page 13
Supervisorial Districts
This language diversity map is produced from data that is updated annually by the U.S. Census Bureau. It is among the most up-
to-date and comprehensive information on our LEP communities that is available. This map can be a resource for departments
seeking to adequately budget for language access services. However, it is important to note that LEP individuals often prefer to
seek services at cultural hubs that may be different from the neighborhoods where they live. Therefore, the choices a department
makes when deploying its language resources may not always conform with these maps. Utilizing the expertise of department
field staff is one way to figure out how best to disseminate language access resources. OCEIA is available to consult with
departments on their language access and community outreach plans to help ensure the most efficient and appropriate use of
language services.
