ABOUT THIS REPORT
The annual Language Access Ordinance Summary Report
evaluates City departments’ compliance and progress with the
San Francisco Language Access Ordinance (LAO). As required by
the LAO, the annual report is submitted to the Board of
Supervisors and the Immigrant Rights Commission on February
1 of each year. This year’s report covers FY 2016-2017 (July 1,
2016 to June 30, 2017) and includes all data that was submitted
by October 1, 2017.
In addition to overseeing compliance, OCEIA provides direct
services to help City departments, the Mayor’s Office, and the
Board of Supervisors better meet the needs of residents and
workers for whom English is not a first language. These services
include technical assistance and on-demand translation and
interpretation assistance during crisis, emergency, or public
safety situations.
