Dubrovnik
This city was largely the reason I wanted to visit Croatia, with the entire old town area being located inside castle
walls. The city is amazing, and is definitely in my top five that we went to. Even the bizarre instance of the hail we
had one night didn’t put a damper on our stay; the city is truly one of a kind, and somewhere I will always
recommend for people to visit. In terms of attractions there really isn’t much there other than a very worthwhile
cable car ride up to the top of a mountain overlooking the city, and a very unworthwhile aquarium, whose star
exhibit is a tank literally filled with rubbish, titled “sea pollution”. The city’s beauty undoubtedly lies in its
architecture – staying inside Old Town you can’t help but feel like you are living in a castle. The fact that there are no
roads inside the walled off town, means that the pedestrian paths create almost a maze. More than once we found
ourselves one minute walking down a dark alley flanked with weird restaurants and bars, the next we stumbled out
into the large open central square, filled with cafes and tourist shops. Without a doubt the best thing to do in the
city is climb along the town’s walls, with the views to be seen being up there with the best we experienced the
whole trip.
