Many theorists measure the success of event on the profit generated from the event. Sheffield world MenCup 2014 made over £300 for Sheffield Mencap, which demonstrates successful financial management as the team were able to stay in budget and generate more income than outgoing, this was done through break even analysis, cash flow charts, and budgets.
Human resource management was very successful in terms of volunteer satisfaction; this was gauged through the evaluation surveys all the volunteers completed. The evaluation illustrated that the volunteers felt fairly to very motivated, and all felt very valued.
To ensure effective time management Gantt charts were used throughout the planning and organising process to ensure everything was on track and the highlight any issues that need to be addressed. The timings during the event were controlled through a timetable on the event managers show notes, despite this the matches ran a few minutes behind the scheduled time due to a logistical error with the goals being placed on the wrong pitch by the venue staff. Never the less the event still went to plan and had no major problems.
Operations
In the evaluation survey, all stakeholders scored Samba Events ‘very good’ for communication. This may have been due to the vast amount of information that was provided on the website, the vast amount of social media updates, the emails, and the two information packs they received. During the event everything was sign posted and a large board had been made of the match timetable, as well as the programme guide they were given in their event pack. All managers were very easy to get hold of during all stages of the event through phone or email and responded fast to miss calls and emails left.
The logistics of the event scored “fairly good” in the evaluation survey by all stakeholders. This may have been because the matches were running slightly off schedule due to the error with the goal being in the wrong pitch. The attendees were only told an estimated finishing time, due to not knowing how long the dinner, raffle, and award ceremony would take. To improve this a pilot event could have taken place to ensuring timings were measured accurately.
