Dotzy's Restaurant and Saloon Review
By: Shayla Alvirez
I took my mother out for dinner at Dotzy’s located in Elgin, Iowa. It’s a small saloon, right on main street of Elgin. I have never been here and neither has my mom, so I figured it would be nice to go see what everyone has been talking about. People have been saying that Dotzy’s has really good food, especially their Cowboy Burger. When you first get to Dotzy’s the outside seems kind of empty, like there’s not much to catch your eye, to draw you in. As we walked inside thought, everything caught my eye. I liked how everything was like old a fashioned saloon. There where wooden walls and even tall wooden booths. I really got the feel of the theme of their restaurant. We sat ourselves down and it was kind of empty, there was only two other tables and a few at the bar. We waited for a good 15 minutes; I was getting a little impatient, considering the place was basically empty. Our waitress came and greeted us with a smile and then took our orders, because we knew what we already wanted, their famous Cowboy Burger and a side of fried pickles for me.
She then left and my mother and I had good conversation and were so amazed by this cute, little restaurant. The food came in about 10 minutes, I took my first bite of the fried pickles and the Cowboy Burger and personally I did not like it at all! I don’t know what it was exactly but it didn’t agree with my taste buds. In my opinion I probably wouldn’t end up going there again, the surrounding are great and it won me over, but for my first time going there I did not like the food and how long I had to sit and wait for someone to come and greet us, when they were not busy. I didn’t even get dessert because I didn’t finish my food. I took it with me and let my brother have it. Maybe someday my mind will change, and I’ll go there again, but for now it isn’t on the top of my list for going out to eat.
