For 73 years , Cullman Cabinet has remained flexible with the times by bringing innovative ideas to the cabinet industry . The founder , Robert Edge , met early challenges by convincing builders that kitchen cabinets could be built offsite rather than being a part of in-house construction . Soon after , in 1954 , Cullman Cabinet became the first producer of post-formed laminated countertops in the Southeast . Within 20 years , the business had grown to be one of the largest custom cabinet companies in Alabama .
Always investing back into the company with the latest and most innovative equipment for cabinet door production , Cullman Cabinet began supplying other cabinet companies with doors in the late 1970 ’ s . This idea allowed those companies to concentrate on building and marketing their cabinets without the investment in sophisticated door production equipment .
In 1985 , Cullman Cabinet stopped cabinet production to concentrate on supplying the industry with custom cabinet doors and laminated post-formed countertops . In 2008 the countertop production lines were converted to environmentally friendly water-based adhesives giving the company a ‘ Green ’ status .
The cabinet door division continuously automates production with CNC routers , optimizing saws , and multi-head planers and sanders to improve quality and production capabilities . New product lines such as dovetail drawer boxes and laminated panels have been added .
The company ’ s retail division , ‘ The Added Touch ,’ has two showrooms with the anchor store at the main plant and the other storefront in the popular Warehouse District of downtown Cullman . These showrooms feature lighting , furniture and accessories , artwork , and gifts complete with full interior design service .
Being a family business , the company is now in the hands of the third generation . Children have always been a part of the scene in the offices of Cullman Cabinet . They have grown up with sawdust in their veins . There is a fourth generation working and recently a fifth generation learned to walk as the phones rang and machinery hummed .
