runway signage , a taxiway realignment and a future runaway repaving and extension project .
Then there is the mowing . Lots and lots of mowing . They currently mow about 200 acres of grass ; once the clearing project is complete next spring , they will be mowing 220 acres .
“ It really takes an army to run this ,” said Airport Manager Ben Harrison . The airport currently has five employees . Full employment , said Harrison , is 8-10 employees .
He said what separates the Cullman Regional Airport employees from other airports is that they are all also pilots , so they look at airport operations from that viewpoint .
“ I want pilots talking to pilots ,” said Harrison .
The airport is home to 84-87 aircraft including hobbyists , corporate airplanes , the Wallace State College flight school and emergency services helicopters .
