For all of the joy the Fletcher’ s derive from running their family farm, they are candid about the problems and issues they confront day to day and year after year.
“ An ongoing problem has to do with fertility issues,” Michael said.“ We have worked hard to improve these issues with careful bull selection, a more extensive veterinary program, and a focus on animal nutrition. Another issue that concerns us is soundness problems.
We have confronted these with greater attention to replacement heifer selection based on pelvic size and a balanced frame.”
Like many modern farmers, Michael and Whitney have employed special practices that contribute to protecting the environment and the conservation of soil, water and energy.
