leader in the military is you get these kids that don ’ t believe in themselves , don ’ t have a support group and you motivate them . You show them the good you see or that they have the potential and their eyes light up and they push themselves even harder . I use that in every day life .
“ You ’ ve got people that come to my class that are at all different fitness levels , we just build friendships by pushing each other , motivating , doing pep talks . Sometimes we jive back and forth at each other and it makes 5 a . m . go a lot quicker .”
Walden has more time to spend with her kids and her husband who had been her driving force for much of her career .
Looking back now , Walden said there are a lot of things the Army
taught her that she will always carry with her , including integrity , discipline and most importantly , friendship .
“ I think the relationships are the most important thing ,” she said . “ We all still come back together even if we ’ ve spent weeks or months not talking to each other .”
Walden encourages others who are looking at a career in the Army , or in another branch of the military , to go for it , as “ there are so many opportunities out there .”
“ I was 19 living in Germany — that was the furthest I ’ ve ever been from my family but I ’ m culturally diverse now after living in Germany , Korea and all the different people I served with ,” she said . “ It ’ s opened my eyes to how great the world is and how different we all are .”
